Winsford Cross Launches Search for Mascot

Residents of all ages invited to design a character that represents the heart of Winsford

Families across Winsford are being invited to design a brand new mascot for Winsford Cross.

The winning designer will see their character brought to life by a professional artist, and used on posters, social media and the Winsford Cross website.

To take part in the Design a Mascot competition, entrants are asked to create a character that represents Winsford, however, that looks in their imagination. It should be inspired by the town’s history, something they love about the area or the community. It could be an animal, a person or something completely made up.

The competition follows the success of a similar initiative at Barons Quay in Northwich, where nine year old Percy Helm designed Baron Lutra, an otter inspired character that was brought to life as a real mascot in 2025. Baron Lutra has since become a familiar face at events and across marketing materials, showing how a simple idea on paper can turn into something the whole town can enjoy. Winsford Cross hopes to create a mascot that residents can feel just as proud of.

Participants should also give their mascot a name and share a little about their personality, such as what they like to do and what makes them special.

Drawings can be created using paint, pencils, crayons or felt tips and should be completed on an A4 sheet of plain white paper.

Entries can be submitted by emailing a clear photo or scan to winsford@acunningplan.co.uk. Designs can also be posted to Cunning Plan Marketing, Atlantic Business Centre, 16 Kingsway, Altrincham WA14 1PJ, or dropped into the official competition post box at Winsford Cross.

The competition is now open and will run until the end of April. Finalists will then be shortlisted and put forward for a public vote on the Winsford Cross website, with full details announced once the shortlist has been revealed.
